Ever in a mood where you feel like you're looking for a fight? I'm in one of those moods. It probably means I should steer clear of the internet for a day, but... *shrug*

I'm going to hit something that doesn't hit back. Like my longbox.

ETA: Spoilery for DC Comics, specifically Cry for Justice.

Dear DC Comics,

It's one thing to cancel a comic book because it's not selling well. It's one thing to kill a character to create drama/tension/revenge plots, yada yada yada.

However, ENOUGH WITH THE GODDAMN SLAUGHTER OF SECONDARY CHARACTERS.

Jesus. You have, like, no support cast left. To make it worse, most of these deaths are editorial mandate. DC is shooting themselves in the foot on purpose.

AND DO WE DETECT A PATTERN WITH THE GRATUITOUS OFFINGS? (Dear women and minorities: RUN.)

Lian Harper was the latest victim. She was Red Arrow's (and how much do I STILL hate the name Red Arrow? Please go back to being Arsenal, kthx. Hell, go back to being Speedy, even that would be an improvement...) daughter with the villain Cheshire. I'm not sure about how old she was, because I haven't kept up with her and Roy since the Outsiders got taken over by Batman and became stupid. Five or six? Anyways, far too young to be stuffed into the fridge, which she narrowly avoided sharing with Mia Dearden, the current Speedy.

If they killed off Speedy, I probably would have hit the roof. I kinda love her.

Plus, considering their track record the last couple of years, killing off the only HIV positive character in mainstream comics (that I know of, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...) would be a Very Bad Idea. Like, comparable to Marvel's offing of Freedom Ring, which still makes me twitch when I think about it. You can't go on and on about how X character is an empowering symbol for Y demographic for Z reasons (which in this case is, ironically, that she's shown managing her disease and not viewing it as a death sentence...), and then just off them as soon as the spotlight shifts.

BLAH.

And DC had been doing so well lately, too... they sort of subverted their own tendency for gratuitous character death in Blackest Night by having all the characters come back. They also quietly and not-so-quietly resurrected several characters, including Kid Flash, Superboy, and Stephanie Brown. Seriously, Dan Didio's love of killing teenage characters is creepy.

And then this.

BAH. BAH, I TELL YOU. *fistshaking*

Honestly, it's been like two years now and I'm still bitter that they canceled Manhunter, Catwoman, Birds of Prey, Nightwing, Robin, and Blue Beetle ALL AT ONCE on me. (And aside from Nightwing and Robin, DO WE NOTICE A PATTERN.)

Especially Blue Beetle. OH GOD I MISS BLUE BEETLE. I was all grumpy that they offed Ted Kord for like, ever, but then Jamie Reyes seduced me and I really think we should get married.

The only things keeping me interested in comics at all right now are Secret Six and Fables. And Buffy, but that's been kinda hit-and-miss after the first three arcs.

In the "squee" column there is the fact that Birds of Prey is starting up again. Which is awesome, because I've missed it, like a lot. A lot a lot. And if Manhunter joins up, I may be somewhat mollified.

ETA: Evidently, Roy IS going back to being known as Arsenal, if the title of his upcoming mini is anything to go by. The Word is that he's also going back to shooting smack. *headdesking forever*.
